20 defendants were prosecuted by Andrew Jones and Ffion Tomos as part of a nationwide Class A drugs conspiracy involving 150kg of heroin.
Sentences totaling 165 years were imposed after a 4 day sentencing exercise at Newport Crown Court. The case involved organised crime groups in Liverpool, Hartlepool, Gloucester, Newport, Cardiff and Plymouth. The syndicates used military style encrypted telephone technology to avoid detection. Drug squad officers estimated that over a 9 month period, £16.85 million worth of heroin was traded nationwide.
